1. Interpreter
An interpreter converts the spoken word from one language into another.
Research suggests that this is a perfect job role for anyone who can listen, understand and memories content in the original language and then reproduce it in the target language. You may be required to interpret on a two-way basis. There are a plethora of business sectors that you could work within if you are an interpreter such as court hearings/solicitor interviews, negotiations, and within education, health, and social services to name a few. The phrase ‘work hard, play hard’ is true in this instance because you will be able to earn a good wage through working as a freelancer and choosing flexible hours that suit you best.
2. Become a translator
Let’s not be mistaken here, a translator is very different from an interpreter. It is easy to get the two mixed up, however, the key difference is that interpretation is using spoken language in real-time whereas translators use computer-aided tools in their work for written work. Okay great, now let’s delve deeper... as a translator you will rewrite language material in the target language, using translation software and specialist dictionaries to aid you. You can also work in several different sectors including, literary, commercial, legal, or educational. You will need to be fluent in at least two or more languages, alongside having strong attention to detail because you will spend a great deal of your time proofreading and editing final translated versions of your edited text.
3. Private tutor abroad
Many platforms allow people with strong backgrounds in marketing, accounting or arts to teach online to a global audience. And to do so, you need to be confident to speak English! This is your one-way ticket to unlocking countless interpersonal skills, alongside allowing you to speak cross-culturally and network with more like-minded people.
We trust that we have been able to show you the importance of learning English, not only is it a highly sought-after skill to be able to speak more than one language, but it effectively allows you to build your confidence and develop your communication skills in your next job.
By doing so, you open yourself up to a number of exciting career options with the opportunity to meet other language learners who are on a similar journey as yourself.
